Summary

Project management is not just restricted to certain industries or to those individuals who are certified as project managers. Lots of us are expected to complete temporary assignments that are not a usual part of our job. We want to get those assignments done well, within our budget and on time.

This workshop is intended for participants who have already built some project experience and have a first-hand sense of the work’s challenges.

To address the challenges, we’ll identify crucial choices we make as project managers which support (or fail to support) the goals of the project. Using our ongoing projects, we’ll enhance our ability to manage risk. We’ll experience how crucial resources can affect our organization’s performance when multiple projects are running. Finally, we’ll delve into the hands-on work of scope control and project troubleshooting.

• Identify the difference between a command-and-control project approach and an autonomous project approach
• Recognize and help remove historic constraints
• Anticipate the risks to successfully executing a specific project
• Identify crucial resources in a project portfolio
• Select projects for a portfolio to maximize benefits
• Determine which of the root causes of scope creep are most likely to affect our portfolio
• Troubleshoot projects swiftly and directly, using the mindset of a physician
